Hilary Duff has spoken out against a New York Times movie critic who has repeatedly criticized her film roles and called her acting "talent challenged." The singer and actress told Elle magazine, "He doesn't really fit the demographic. So I could really care less. Look at me, and look at where he is - sorry! Would he prefer that I take some super-adult role that is inappropriate so I would have no place to grow? Suppose the next thing I did was this super-edgy independent movie where I was pregnant or shooting up. What would that do to my fanbase?"

She said it in a snotty way, but part of what she's saying is true. Her demographic doesn't need her doing edgy independents where she's some sort of crack-addled teen mother. Someone needs to do the crap for the tweens, and it looks like that someone is her. Critics should definitely take that into account, but again, she didn't have to be snotty about it. I'm actually glad that she realizes her role in the public eye and isn't trying to grow up too quickly.
