Strict mom Madonna

Material Mom Madonna keeps things strict with daughter Lourdes. "No boys for [Lourdes] until she turns 18," the singer says. "She's a good girl, though. She doesn't have it easy. Late-night TV, junk food and mess are not tolerated in my house." Madonna's brood are often forbidden from watching any TV at all, and if Lourdes doesn't put away her clothes, she may just lose them altogether. "My daughter has a problem picking things up in her room," she told a British magazine. "So if you leave your clothes on the floor, they're gone when you come home."

I cant wait to see Lourdes go wild when shes 18 because it seems like shes doing time in prison, I agree about waiting to date, I dont understand why mom wasnt so strict on herself when she was youger, or is it that shes embarrassed that the children might see what shes done in her past. anyways.

And, she is doing just fine!
There is a need to return to some sort of old-fashioned values.
Madonna knows that living on her (former) rules will take her child nowhere, unless she becomes a famous singer!
And, mom is afraid of that, she's seen it really close to home....

Heck yeah that just tells me that her kids probably listen to her. Who hasn't done that to thier kids, the home is everyones resposibility not just mom's. Sound to me like she is a good mom that is not spoiling her children just because of her status.

You go girl!

Ha! That's awesome. Don't appreciate your sh*t, then it won't be there. Good lesson. Kudos!

Heck Yeah , she is right for doing that. sounds to me like she is a good mom, that doesn't spoil her kids. I've done the same thing , at least it teaches them responsiblity.

That is a little too strict to take away her clothes.

DO NOT OVER DO IT MOM.
THAT WHAT YOUR CATHOLIC DAD DID TO YOU AND HE TURNED YOU AWAY FROM CATHOLISM.
PEOPLE DO NOT GO BACKWARD IN RELGION.
PEOPLE FOLLOW THE NEWEST LAW OF GOD.
MAY GOD GUID YOU.
AFTER YOU FINISH MAKING YOUR MONEY GIVE IT TO THE POOR.

if I could afford to throw my kids clothes away I would too...

I think she is to strict. When she does turn 18 look out. If you ever watch the movie Mommy Dearest, witch was about Joan Crawford, that is who Madonna is like. That is awful. And in years to come she will be sorry. My opinion is she is very wrong.

I would think that she would be a strict mom. She was brought up by old school Italian Catholics. I'm sure the instilled old world values in her. I'm sure Lourdes, Rocco, & David will grow up to be responsible adults. I see Madonna as a no nonsense type of mom and would put the kibosh on anything before it starts.

Good for Madonna. Wish more mums were like that. Childrens lazy and bad behaviour is often copied from their parents. Parents need to learn to be a parent.

this is great that Madonna is raising her children in this manner. This means that Lourdes will hopefully not grow up to be a brat just becasue she has a superstarr mom.

Anonymous said...

I agree, If you want it; put it away,,otherwise it's gone.I raised my children the same way.Who wants to keep picking up after someone. I don't have the time or desire ,parents need to make their children responsible

I would think the maid would pick up the clothes...sounds awfully rigid to me...and if that is a character of being a good mom..I'm a bad one!

good! it is enogh a bit of discipline to teach them young how to live.

I think she is a fair mother. I have 2 children and I want them to learn the value of the dollar. If they have no respect for their things, they have no respect for how hard you work for them. Learning to appreciate what they have teaches them valuable lessons for life.

Im happy to hear shes strick rather than a lazy "I dont care" mom. I just might use the clothes on the floor idea.

How old are her kids?

It is ok to be a mom, but don't become mommy deariest. Everyone wants what is best for their child but if you are too strict, they will find out the hard way with your help or the help of outsiders. Let her watch t.v. with you and explain to her that what is on t.v. is not real. Let her talk to you about boys she like in school. let her know how far to go etc. You want her to find out about life from you knot the street. Where I'm from the street will get to you first.Where you are from the street is quiet but yet sneaky. Please don't be one of those parents who think "It won't happen to my child" Just because you have money. Money can't buy self respect it can only be taught.

I think Madonna must be a great parent. My Dad was the same way with me regarding my clothes. If I didn't put them away or if I wouldn't share them with my sisters, he might just give them away. Now that I'm older, I really appreciate all he did for us. We didn't watch a lot of TV or eat junk food and we are better because of it today. I'm a little bit sick of seeing parents trying to be friends rather than parents. Kids will have plenty of friends. They NEED parents and guidance. Way to go Madonna!!!!

I am happy that Madonna has had that opportunity to be a good Mom for her child. I am such a deep admirer of her life. I would give her a child anytime, and an infinity of clinical massages.
Best wishes always,
Asahel

It looks like Madonna is giving her daughter the rules, and boundaries she never had. But there is a double standard there considering all the profanity involved in Madonna's videos, and on stage when she sings. Basically, she needs to protect her daughter from Madonna, and her types. If Lourdes is not already aware of the contents of her mother's videos, she will soon realize that her mother is a hipocrite, and hopefully do the opposite of what her mother has always done, including doing away with that pagan false religion she is blindly involved in. I wish Madonna well, and will make it a point to pray for her.

I agree I am a bit younger than Madonna, but our daughters are the same age. Party girls usually turn out to be strict moms because we know what happens when u run wild. Do as I say, not as I do.

Oh yes, thats good, if you do not teach your children right from the start Madonna, you will be so heartbroken when they start making bad choices that come as a result of inadequate parental guidance. What will take you to an early grave is watching their lives unfold before the whole world like a fatal accident happening in slow motion. I for one am very impressed by you parental style, keep it up!!

I can't wait until the girls grow up & find out the truth about their "strict mother".

Remember when Madonna was on stage shoving her fingers up her crotch?

I am sure that will video will leave a lasting impression with Lourdes & the other children.

I think she is a great mom. No TV is a excellent policy. We took ours out 3 years ago and don't miss it at all. Our kids are active, great readers, and are much better off with out the bad influnce that TV can be to their young growing minds. Clean up after themselves is very important habit to get them in. It won't be long until they are taking care of their own place.

It's ok to teach your children to take care of what's there. So many children today does not have that quide between Mom and Daughter.

You go Madonna

As a child therapist in practice for 20 years I am disturbed by Madonna's intense parenting style.
Children only learn to fear a very strict parent, they tend to distance from the parent.
To take away things like clothes or favorite things forever is too puinitive. Take them away for a little while and give them a chance to earn them back is a productive way to learn a lesson. All Madonna is doing is teaching them that they have no power and she is in control.

Anonymous said...

That is a bit rigid. Mommy Dearest much? Plenty of celebrity kids watch TV/eat sweets and grow up fine. Just because some of you werent allowed to watch TV or eat sweets, doesnt mean every kid should be raised like that.

Hey Im 16 and i hate it when my mom throws my clothes away when i leave them on the floor. especialy ones that i bought myself. And if you think Madonna is being too strict then your wrong. If its somthing you have grown up with then it doesnt seem that bad. Its a simple rule... leave it laying around and have it thrown away. Its not strict its avoiding childhood stupidity. Thanks mom, for throwing my clothes away, because i know now, never to leave them on the floor. And for the moron who said that Madonna converted due to her dad, that is awful. If you have a strong relationship with God then you dont convert because of your parent. IF you are a good cathloc then you should be thankful you even have parents. Being a Jew is a trend in Hollywood. as bad as it sounds, it gained her more publicity.

Madonna was raised catholic and not financially well off as she is now. I am glad she doesnt't make it easy on her kids so they dont take for granted what she has to offer them.

Anonymous said...

They can't really say that she's running a prison on her own kids. Doesn't anyone remember a few years ago when Madonna and Lourdes were shopping? She threw FIT after FIT just to get some boots, and Madonna only did a casual "no sweetie, no sweetie, you have some like these at home" until FINALLY Lourdes got so angry and loud that Madonna just bought the darn things. She indulges in them heavily, so maybe it's worth it to forbid TV and "throwing away their clothes". I mean, she may have to make amends for how to so-called disciplined them before. Look back to the past before condemning her new treatment of her children.

Madonna is a good mom. Is very hard to make your kids keep their rooms clean.. If there was a contest on dirties 13 yr room my daughter's room will win..

An for TV is great hers doesnt watch it. TV is full of junk anyways... Better to use their brains and their imagination......

Like when I was growing up we didnt have much TV so we played more

Asking a kid to pick up her clothes is not 'strict'- it's teaching responsibility. There is the option of having a maid doing this chore in that household, so what would Lourdes learn from that?
It's just most of us can't afford to throw the clothes away (I would hope that they would be donated).

hey i do the same your critics....
If my daughter keeps her clothes on the floor i pick them up and give them away.....she knows that so she puts them away now . it took me a while to get her to do it......but when she found some of her faves going away she thought twice.......but clothes cost money....and no matter how much you have you must learn to take care of what you have and not take it from granted...... so Go Madonna Im with you!

An TV good television is full of junk anyways. I keep my daughter's time watching tv very strict........1 hr a day enough!

For those who compare Madonna to Joan Crawford 'Mommy Dearest', you have a lot of difficulty in distinguishing the difference between responsible parenting and abuse.

How is it people are saying Mommie Dearest? Honestly, not letting Lourdes watch TV, eat junk food and requiring her to pick up her clothes is being a crazy, abusive woman?
Please.
Madonna had her exploration of sexuality in her past so does that mean she isn't supposed to put restrictions on her own daughter? Maybe she has learned from her past.
I think she is great and good for her for teaching her children responsibility. (I take my kids toys away if they don't pick them up-they have to earn them back, but why not?)
Lourdes seems happy and the family is together so she must be doing something right.

WHO CARES ABOUT THESE CELEBRITIES, ANYWAY. THEY ARE ALL SELF INDULGENT PEOPLE, SNOBS. ALL THE TROUBLE THEY GET INTO. THEY ARE ALL NUTS. WHY DO WE EVEN GLORIFY THEM AT ALL.

They all act like they are previleged. So, Madonna, look at yourself, you still think everyone should kiss your feet. Let your poor children BE CHILDREN. Just limit what they watch on tv. Don't take everything away from them. I think it's good to not give them bad food and to be respectful and responsibile.

But I think they deserve a treat once in awhile. Let them enjoy being a kid. They grow fast. And by the way, when they grow up they are going to choose how they live. It will be out of Madonna's hands.

I am a mom just a few years younger than Madonna and I don't see her rules as overly strict. I ask my kids to pick up after themselves and not to eat too much junk. I am quite permissive with things like TV and music and films but I know plenty of parents who are more strict and that's quite normal. Being Madonna's child is a double-edged sword. She has all the priveleges that come with wealth -- nice home, clothes, travel, good school. She will never have to struggle for money. But on the other hand, as a celebrity child she is under constant scrutiny and has alot to measure up to. Her freedom is somewhat limited by concerns over safety etc. So being asked to pick up her dirty socks and turn off the TV isn't that horrible...

OBInc said...

Don't be so quick to say that her kid will be buck wild when she gets older. Madonna is just raising her child the old school way. People who did not have certain rules in the household are the ones who have personalities that seem fine to them but to everyone else they are "a-holes." I commend Madonna for that because these people have money that you and I may never see in our lifetime and it's real easy for these young kids to turn into a Paris Hilton who don't know the meaning of labor.

OMG some people on this post need to seriously get their facts straight - she doesn't take the clothes away forever people. If you've heard her on interviews Lola can earn them back with good behavior. And she's not so strict that her child will distance herself from her mom. Her daughter and her have the closest bond ever. It's adorable. She respects and loves Madonna - obvious to even outsiders. Madonna knows her stuff - in music and in motherhood.

I think shes doing exactly what she should be doing as a mother. Teaching disciplin is a way to keep your children on the right path. Had I not had the sme I would have probably ended up on the streets doing some type of drug or worse. The Bible says if you spare the rod you spoil the child!

anonymous said. Its great that Madonna doesn't let her kids have junk food, they don't need it They r not miss out of anything. That way they won't have problems. As tv go's i can understand that, children don't need it. keep the good work up Madonna with your kids. Kids should pick up there own stuff, the mother shouldn't have too. I love your act on stage.

Madonna is a phenomenal woman. She is a high achiever despite having lost her own mother when she was still very young. I wish more people would recognize Madonna's amazing capabalities, instead of condemning her very artistic work. For the harsh critics take a close look at your own personal lives.
Madonna is always beautiful, productive and she doesn't burn taxes payers money. She will always make her children proud for her past, present and everlasting accomplishments.

I honestly believe strict is good. Not only that but Madonna already knows the ropes of growing up. A lot of parents don't do the old fashion ways. I as a parent of a 9 year old do the same thing. Its unfortunate to know that just because you have a past you automatically think that your going to want to raise your child in a crazy life style. I believe she's doing a good job. If you don't guard your kids as a parent then who will? Besides a kid does feel safe when they have structure vs not.

Anonymous said...

MADONNA GREW UP WITHOUT A MOM, SO I CAN SEE THAT ALL SHE WANTS IS FOR HER CHILDREN TO HAVE A STRUCTURED NORMAL LIFESTYLE. I WISH THERE WERE MORE MOM'S LIKE HER OUT THERE. AS A MOTHERLESS DAUGHTER, HAVING A DAUGHTER AND PROTECTING HER COMES FIRST.
