Madonna adoption update

Madonna visited an orphanage in Malawi yesterday but has not adopted, as widely rumored. Madonna's publicist dismissed claims from Malawain government officials that her client will adopt a boy, and said Madonna is in the African nation on a private visit and working on a project for children in the region. "I have no information or confirmation regarding Madonna adopting an individual child," said the rep. "She's kind of adopting an entire country of children. She is on a private visit to Malawi and is involved in the building of an orphanage/child care center as well as other initiatives to help the children of that country who have lost parents to AIDS." However, a senior official with the nation's Ministry for Gender and Child Welfare insist they were expecting Madonna to file adoption papers, and said, "We haven't got anything from Madonna's people yet. As far as we are concerned her plans [to adopt a child] remain unchanged."
